The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in most districts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, till Friday.
According to the weather department, extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over North Gujarat Region on Saturday. Weather experts in the state, too, have predicted the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains.
"Strong surface winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) very likely over Gujarat coast during next 5 days," the IMD said in a post on X, adding, "Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to continue over north Gujarat till 23rd August. A fresh spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall over Gujarat state from 25th August onwards."
The IMD said rains and thunderstorms are predicted in Ahmedabad, South Gujarat, Saurashtra, North Gujarat and Kutch in the coming days.
Further, an Orange alert was in place in 10 districts, including Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Tapi, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
The weather agency has also issued rain warnings for Kutch, Patan, Banaskantha, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Morbi, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Navsari, and Valsad districts in the state for Saturday.
A Yellow alert has been issued in Kutch, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Navsari, and Valsad for Sunday.
Fishermen have been directed not to venture into the sea for the next five days, as there is also the possibility of high winds.
