Top Indian badminton stars PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, and the dynamic men's doubles duo Chirag Shetty–Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are all set to compete in the upcoming Japan Open 2025, starting Tuesday, July 15. The tournament will be hosted at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, and will run until July 20.
PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, has had a tough 2025 season on the BWF World Tour. Her standout performance this year came at the India Open in January, where she reached the quarter-finals. Since then, she has faced a string of early exits, including four first-round losses, before managing back-to-back Round of 16 appearances at the Singapore and Indonesia Opens.
Lakshya Sen, who narrowly missed a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, finishing fourth, has also struggled for form. He has been knocked out in the first round five times this year, with his best result being a quarter-final finish at the All England Open.
On the doubles front, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, the reigning Asian Games champions, have made it to three semi-finals and a quarter-final at the Indonesia Open, but are yet to claim a title this season.
