The trailer for Kantara: Chapter 1 (Kantara 2), a much-anticipated prequel to the original Kantara, has been released, generating excitement among fans. Set to hit theatres on October 2, the film is scheduled during the festive season of Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti, a prime time for movie lovers. Audiences are curious, especially with the promise of folklore, mystery, and intense visuals. However, during the trailer launch event in Bangalore, Rishab Shetty revealed some suprising details about the shoot.

Rishab Shetty on shooting Kantara Chapter 1

At the event, Rishab Shetty, lead actor and co-writer shared that he was about to die three to four times while shooting. He said that the team had worked non-stop for nearly three months, often going without proper rest. He mentioned that the entire crew, from the direction department to the producers, treated the film as their own, which helped them push through the challenges. He acknowledged that several on-set accidents had occurred, many of which were reported in the media.

"In fact, if I count, I was about to die 4 or 5 times during shoot, the divinity we trust saved me and gave blessings to all of us," said Rishab Shetty.

For those who don't know, the film’s production has seen a few sad losses. Mimicry artist and actor Kalabhavan Niju, aged 43, passed away in June in Bengaluru. He had worked through auditions on Kantara 2, making him one of the team members to die during the film’s production phase. Earlier, actor Rakesh Pujari, known for his part in Kantara 1, died of cardiac arrest at the age of 33. There was also a junior artiste, M.F. Kapil, who lost his life by drowning in the Souparnika river in Udupi district; though the makers clarified that the incident occurred off-set and during his personal time, not while filming.

More about Kantara: Chapter 1

Despite these challenges, production has continued. The script has been co-written by Rishab, Anirudh Mahesh, and Shanil Guru. The story explores the origins of the Bhoota Kola ritual and promises to deepen the folklore foundation introduced in the earlier film. The cast includes Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, Gulshan Devaiah, among others, and the project is backed by Hombale Films.

Fans have reacted with mixed feelings to the trailer, many appreciate the cinematography, action sequences, and Shetty’s intense screen presence, while some wish for a stronger narrative payoff alongside the visual spectacle. Whatever the mix, the anticipation is clearly strong.

With Kantara: Chapter 1 arriving on October 2, it remains to be seen how audiences will respond to its mix of myth, danger, and storytelling. Stay tuned for more
