Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday vowed tough measures against 'infiltrators' who have entered India illegally, saying that such illegal immigrants will be brought to justice in adherence to the Indian Constitution and the country's laws.
He made the remarks while delivering a speech at a public rally in West Bengal's Durgapur.
"Let me say this clearly from the land of Durgapur, listen again carefully, those who are not citizens of India, those who have entered the country illegally, will face legal action under the Indian Constitution," PM Modi said.
Accusing West Bengal government of being complicit in letting infiltrators inside the country through its borders, Modi said that TMC was putting the identity of Bengal at risk.
"For its own benefit, the TMC government has put the identity of West Bengal at stake. Infiltration is being encouraged in the state. Fake documents are being made for the infiltrators... This is a big threat to West Bengal and the country... In the politics of appeasement, TMC is crossing all limits...Action will be taken against those who are not citizens of the nation," Modi said.
Moreover, he mounted another scathing attack on TMC during the rally, accusing the state government of halting West Bengal’s development through corruption, violence, and extortion.
“TMC’s ‘gunda tax’ is stopping investments from flowing into West Bengal,” he said.
Modi claimed the people of the state are now openly demanding change. “Bengalis are saying with full force—‘TMC hatao, Bangal bachao’,” he told the crowd, while asserting that the BJP is committed to building a Viksit West Bengal.

He slammed the ruling party for blocking industrial growth, despite the state’s rich potential.
“West Bengal has all the resources the country needs for ‘Make in India’. But the TMC has become a ‘wall’ hindering the state’s growth,” he said.
Taking aim at the law and order situation, Modi pointed to frequent incidents of violence and unrest, asking, “In a state where little things trigger violence, where riots such as the one in Murshidabad erupt, how can one invest in a state such as this?”
He also blamed the TMC for the SSC recruitment scam, alleging that the careers of thousands of teachers were destroyed due to the government’s corruption.
“We need to get West Bengal out of this crisis,” he said, adding that the BJP could restore the state's lost glory if voted to power. “Just a few years of BJP governance can bring Bengal back to being a thriving state.”
