Mumbai: A tragic accident occurred early Friday morning near Siddharth Colony on the Eastern Express Highway in Chembur, Mumbai, when a speeding garbage truck belonging to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) overturned. The mishap claimed the life of a labourer and left two others injured. Chembur Police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the matter.
According to police sources, the incident took place around 7 a.m. when the truck was transporting garbage from Ghatkopar to Sion. As the vehicle approached Siddharth Colony, the driver lost control and the truck hit a road divider before overturning. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Alauddin Shah, managed to escape from the vehicle in time, narrowly avoiding serious injury.
However, his colleague Abdul (26) got trapped under the overturned truck. Locals immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and, with the help of a crane, managed to lift the vehicle. Abdul was pulled out and rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, but doctors declared him dead before treatment could begin.
Another labourer, Arif Khan (22), also sustained injuries in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment along with the driver at Rajawadi Hospital.
