A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) attached to Panvel City Police Station was caught red-handed by the Raigad Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday, July 21, while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. The officer, Sachin Vamanrao Waykar (42), was arrested along with a private individual, Ravindra alias Sachin Subhash Butte (30), who accepted the bribe on his behalf.
The action followed a complaint filed by a citizen whose father was booked under IPC sections 465, 420, and 34. After securing interim bail in the case, PSI Waykar allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant, threatening to add more charges and re-arrest his father if the demand was not met.
"Refusing to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the us. A verification process revealed that Waykar had agreed to settle the matter for Rs 50,000. Acting on this, we set up a trap on Monday," an officer from Raigad ACB said.
