UP School Holidays 2025: Students across Uttar Pradesh are in for a pleasant four-day break from school this August, as a combination of religious holidays, a national holiday, and the usual Sunday off. Schools will be closed from 14 August to 17 August, 2025, giving everyone an extended weekend that gives ample time to celebrate as well as relax.

Although the state government has declared holidays for the public, it is best to verify with the schools individually or look at the official holiday calendar to ensure closures and special school-themed events or celebrations.

August 14: Chehlum

Observed mainly by the Muslim community, Chehlum occurs 40 days from Ashura and commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. It is an important public holiday in UP, particularly in cities such as Lucknow, Moradabad, and Varanasi, where large processions and prayer gatherings are held.

August 15: Independence Day

India observes its 79th anniversary of independence on August 15. Although morning flag-hoisting ceremonies and cultural events are a norm in most schools, there are no classes conducted after the celebration, thus a whole-day holiday.

August 16: Krishna Janmashtami

Lord Krishna's birth will be commemorated on August 16 with grand celebrations at home, temples, and public areas. Functions like dahi handi, Raas Leela, and bhajan singing are arranged, while schools will be closed throughout the state.

August 17: Sunday

The long weekend comes to an end with the usual Sunday holiday, adding up to four continuous days of holiday.
