Debbie is left reeling and decides to keep the diagnosis between her and Carl much to his concern. Meanwhile there's trouble for Swarla, when Carla makes an observation about stepdaughter Betsy Swain. Weeks in from the shooting that left her with no feeling in her arm, it seems Betsy is making some progress.
In fact, Carla is convinced Betsy is playing her mum Lisa, with Lisa keen to take time off work to spend time with her daughter. With Carla left to keep an eye on Betsy at the flat, she spots Betsy picking something up with both hands and using it - proving she hasn't got paralysis in the arm and hand.
Just as Carla points out her arm is fine, Lisa arrives home and Betsy leaps up sending her lunch flying. Carla swipes at the teenager for faking the injury, but she's frustrated when Lisa lets it slide. But how will she react when Carla insists Betsy should contribute towards Tracy's damaged van?

Maria soon issues a warning to Gary about him, but it seems Mick might be a helping hand. Maria's young son Liam is mugged and terrorised by a group of lads, leading to Mick approaching - but what will he do?
