Yesterday afternoon, Donald Trump broke his silence after the meeting, turning on . In typical Trump style, he took to his Truth Social platform, where he said: "With all of that being said, there was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days."

The US President then suggested Mad Vlad had been playing him, with Trump even floating more sanctions against the dictator. He added: "It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through “Banking” or “Secondary Sanctions?” Too many people are dying!!!" This came a day after Trump declared Moscow and Kyiv "are very close to a deal".
