Emmanuel Haro's father has been spotted searching for the baby's body alongside police officers while wearing his prison jumpsuit.

Jake Haro, who is accused along with his wife of killing their seven-month-old child, got a day pass from jail on Sunday to head out to a remote field in Moreno Valley with San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies and cadaver dogs. Wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, Haro was seen at the location off the 60 Freeway, near Gilman Springs Road in California, in news videos shared by US media.

Footage of the search and recovery mission showed dozens of people looking along the hillsides and paths in the areas - but the infant's remains have not been located yet. "The search has concluded, and Emmanuel was not located," the sheriff's department said in a statement. "The investigation to find Emmanuel continues."

Little Emmanuel was reported missing on August 14 with his mum, Rebecca Haro, claiming she had been attacked and knocked unconscious outside a Big 5 store in Yucaipa, a city located 10 miles east of San Bernardino in San Bernardino County, the sheriff's office said. However, by Friday morning, plain clothes investigators were seen searching the family's home in Cabazon and entering three detached buildings as helicopters circled in the sky above.

Both parents have been arrested, and the sheriff's department said Emmanuel is presumed dead. Yellow police tape and a mangled wooden fence that had been rammed by a SWAT vehicle remained following the arrests, reports theLos Angeles Times. The outlet reported the mum initially reported her baby as missing and allegedly gave statements that she later contradicted.

When the baby disappeared, investigators launched a massive search, deploying scent-tracking dogs and interviewing "multiple individuals" in the case. During the interviews, Rebecca "was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview," the sheriff's office said.

Despite conducting "extensive" searches in the areas of Yucaipa and Cabazo, as well as "several search warrants at the Haro home", authorities have been unable to locate the child's body so far. Deputies have said they are also reviewing a "large amount of surveillance video" from the areas of interest.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Emmanuel's father has a criminal history of child abuse charges. Court records show he was convicted of wilful child cruelty in 2023 following a case in which his infant daughter with a previous spouse suffered multiple severe injuries, including a skull fracture, brain haemorrhage, and broken ribs.

Both Jake and his then-wife, Vanessa Avina, pleaded guilty. Jake was sentenced to 180 days in a sheriff's work-release program and ordered into a child abuser treatment program. Doctors who treated the child in that case said that the injuries were "indicative of abuse head trauma, child physical abuse and nutritional neglect."

When little Emmanuel went missing, his father told local media: "He was a happy baby. He was crawling. He was kicking. He was playing with his toys. Whoever took our son, please give him back."

Detectives said the Haros initially cooperated - handing over their phones and allowing a search of their home. However, they later stopped working with investigators.
