A crash between a train and a car at a level crossing has prompted a huge emergency response.
The Tyne and Wear Metro traincollided with the vehicle in Newcastle this morning. Emergency services rushed to Callerton Lane shortly before 9.55am. Images show police officers standing by the train following the crash, with cones placed around the area.
Officials blocked the road while emergency crews responded to the incident. Locals experienced minor disruption to train services between Airport and Kingston Park.

All services have now resumed as normal. Police issued an update regarding the incident and confirmed no one is thought to have sustained severe injuries, reports Chronicle Live.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 9.55am today (Friday), we received a report of a collision involving a Metro train and a car at a level crossing on Callerton Lane in Newcastle. Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene, and nobody is believed to have sustained any serious injuries."
The Tyne and Wear Metro account on X has posted the following, confirming that the disruption has now cleared: "The earlier disruption has now cleared, and Metro services have resumed between Airport and Kingston Park, although trains are behind schedule. We are working on restoring the timetable as quickly as possible. Ticket acceptance will continue until 12pm."
