Indian wrestling star Aman Sehrawat, a bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, has been banned for one year by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) due to failing to meet the prescribed weight limit. Competing in the 57 kg category in men's freestyle wrestling, Sehrawat was found to be 1.7 kg over the limit on the day of the Senior World Championships, resulting in his disqualification and suspension from all wrestling activities for a year.
The WFI issued a show-cause notice to Sehrawat on September 23, 2025, seeking an explanation for his weight discrepancy. Although Sehrawat responded on September 29, the disciplinary committee found his explanation unsatisfactory after conducting a thorough investigation, including collecting additional information from his coaching staff.
Accordingly, WFI imposed a one-year suspension effective until September 22, 2026. During this time, Sehrawat is barred from participating in or associating with any wrestling activities organized or sanctioned by the WFI at both national and international levels.
