Who doesn't love brownies? They're rich, chocolatey, easy to make, and now there's a new way to bake them that's even quicker and easier. Thanks to the air fryer, you can whip up perfectly gooey brownies in under 20 minutes, without even turning on the oven.
You just need the right method, and one baker says it's all about using the right ingredients and keeping things simple. John Kanell, the creator of the hugely popular YouTube channel with more than 5 million subscribers, recently shared his foolproof air fryer brownie recipe.
"These brownies are nothing but a fudgy, rich, chocolatey amazingness and they are so fast and easy to make in your air fryer," he said in the video.
To start, John melts 45g of semi-sweet chocolate chips with 57g of unsalted butter, microwaving in 30-second bursts and stirring in between until smooth.
He then adds 100g of sugar, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, and one large room temperature egg.
"You can really whisk the sugar and the egg together until the sugar dissolves. That's going to give you a beautiful, shiny crackly top," he explained, though he added that the air fryer version may be slightly less glossy than oven-baked brownies.
Next, he sifts in 25g of Dutch-processed cocoa powder, followed by 40g (1/3 cup) of all-purpose flour, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

"Dutch-processed cocoa powder is going to give you a fudgier baked good," he said.
"If you add too much flour into your brownie it's going to be cakey and drier, so exactly 1/3 of a cup please."
Once combined, John folds in an extra 1/4 cup of chocolate chips. But he says you can customise them however you like, adding anything from nuts to dried fruit, M&Ms or peanut butter cups.
"Some people like their brownies plain, some people like them filled with toasted pecans or walnuts. Whatever you want or have on hand."
He uses a small six-inch buttered cake pan lined with parchment paper, which fits neatly into the air fryer basket. The air fryer is then preheated to 330F (about 165C).
"Air fry your brownie for about 15 minutes or until the top is crackly, the edges are set, but a toothpick inserted in the centre still comes out nice and fudgy," he said.
"Let them cool completely in the pan or they'll fall apart, in which case, just grab a spoon and add ice cream."
Once cooled, the brownies are ready to serve.
"Just like that, they're ready to enjoy - so chocolatey, decadent, melt-in-your-mouth fudgy and amazing with a crunchy crackly top. It's the best of both worlds."
