Sick of wasting time endlessly scrolling through streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney Plus to find your next binge-watch? Many of us fall into this habit, only to get fed up of wasting time and sticking on something we've already watched.
But there's one thriller series you need to add to your watch-list if you haven't already, and many are raving about it. TikTok content creator Onyi Okorie recently posted a clip recommending people add The Girlfriend on Amazon Prime to their watch-lists. "Nothing has been this good since Paradise," she said, referring to the political sci-fi thriller that revolves around the death of a former president in a seemingly peaceful community.
She continued: "You guys need to watch The Girlfriend on Amazon Prime, I've not seen anything like it. I've literally sat for six hours ange binge-watched this entire show. The ending. Don't even get me started on the ending.
"There's a reason why this is number one in the UK right now on Prime [at the time of writing it is number 2]. One thing about me, I know good TV. You need to add this to your watch-list. 10 out of 10."
The Girlfriend is a psychological thriller series directed by House of Cards alum Robin Wright and BAFTA-nominated Andrea Harkin. It stars Robin as Laura, Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon) as Cherry Laine, Laurie Davidson (Mary & George) as Daniel, Waleed Zuater (Gangs of London) as Howard and Tanya Moodie (Sherlock) as Isabellla.
The description reads: "In this juicy psychological thriller, Laura (Robin Wright) has it all: a glittering career, a loving husband, and her prized son, Daniel. But her perfect life unravels when Daniel brings home Cherry (Olivia Cooke), a girlfriend who changes everything. Laura's convinced Cherry is hiding something. Is she a manipulative social climber, or is Laura just paranoid? The truth is a matter of perspective."
While some had seen the series and completely agreed with her, others couldn't wait to watch it themselves. "Binged it yesterday, I need season 2 ASAP!!" said one person.
Another said: "Just watched after your recommendation, please recommend more." And a third commented: "I just finished it an hour ago and it was so good, never heard of Paradise but I'm gonna check it out."
Someone else wrote: "I'm trusting you! Starting it right now," and another simply said: "Sold!"
If you're still looking for your next watch, you could also add a "hidden gem" to your list. According to Eccy Reviews on social media, you're "missing out" if you haven't watched We Own This City on Amazon Prime, and it's "way too good to be kept a secret".
Explaining the plot, Luke said: "This tells the true story of Baltimore's Gun Trace Task Force and how corrupt it was, from planting evidence to robbing innocent people on the streets."
According to Luke, it also features "one of the biggest downfalls ever" and he praised the performances from all the actors, who he said are "genuinely brilliant". He continued: "I was completely hooked from start to finish. It's one of the best shows I've watched in a long time."
