Carlos Alcaraz could not separate Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner as he prepares to face the winner of their semi-final in the showpiece Six Kings Slam match. He booked his place in Saturday's finale with a 6-4 6-2 win over Taylor Fritz. Just by stepping on court for the first time in Saudi Arabia, Alcaraz earned £1.1million as part of the exhibition.

Fans got their money's worth as the 22-year-old dazzled with a stunning array of shots, a powerful forehand and a delicate drop shot, earning revenge for his Laver Cup defeat to the American. Alcaraz will face either Djokovic or Sinner next, with the winner of the competition set to receive another huge £3.4m.

When asked who he thought would win the second semi of the night, the Spanish star replied: "Well it's one of the best matchups we have in tennis right now. It's gonna be great, interesting. I'm gonna watch it. I'm gonna enjoy that match. Both are playing great. I'll let the people choose who's gonna be the winner next match."

On-court interviewer Andrew Castle described Alcaraz's answer as a "politician's response" before the reigning French Open and US Open champion launched a few tennis balls into the crowd.

He was then quizzed over his favourite moments of another glittering year, to which he responded: "I've had great moments on and off court. This year has been my best year so far without a doubt. If I had to choose one moment... I don't know.

"It's really difficult to choose one. When I won Roland Garros, that was a great moment for me. When I won Monte Carlo. I came from losing in Miami. I was able to come back mentally and physically and play great tennis in Monte Carlo. I'm gonna choose those moments from this year."

Alcaraz defeated Sinner in the French Open final earlier this year, a match that was described by many as one of the greatest that tennis has ever produced.

Less than a month earlier, he claimed the Monte Carlo Masters title after what he described as a "difficult month."

He made a slow start in the final against Lorenzo Mussetti, going down 6-3 in the opening set, but recovered to take the next two 6-1 6-0 for his 18th overall title.

"It's been a really difficult week with a lot of difficult situations," Alcaraz said at the time. "I'm really proud of my myself how I've dealt with everything. It's been a really difficult month for me on the court and outside.

"Coming here and seeing how the whole hard work has paid off, I'm really happy."
