Coronation Street plead for 'painful' character to be written out of ITV soap

Fans of ITV's Coronation Street have expressed their dislike of a new character, saying they "can't abide him" as his storylines heat up. James Silverton Cartwright only arrived on the cobbles as Theo Silverton, a love interest for Todd Grimshaw (Garrett Pierce) in March, but he doesn't seem to be growing on viewers. During the latest episode (August 8), which saw him wrongly accused of assaulting Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain), and previous anger issues revealed, viewers took to X in their droves to complain.

"#Corrie, Oh well, we had about 4 minutes before Theo," one wrote, accompanied by the sleeping emoji. "Wow #Corrie is just awful...these stories are so boring & this Theo character is the worst ever, good lord it's so bad," another added. A third chimed in: "Can we have an episode without Theo? He's so painful to watch." A fourth asked: "#corrie Why is Theo still in this....."

A fifth ranted: "Can't abide Theo. Not only does he have the personality of a wet dishcloth, but he's showing definite anger issues and coercive control tendencies.. Surely Todd can't be THAT desperate???#corrie."

Some viewers did seem to enjoy the character, however. "Theo is completely unhinged-he's turning into a brilliant villain. Poor Todd," one wrote. "Never thought I'd be on Theo's side, but deck him," another said in response to the storyline.

Theo's altercation with a drunk Aadi meant he missed an appointment with a social worker who was assessing if he could see his children.

When Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) saw him being taken away by the police, he and Todd did a search online and found details of a previous assault charge.

Upon returning home, he seemed shocked that they had been researching him online.

After Billy left, he explained what had happened to Todd, claiming he is not that person anymore.

Meanwhile, Aadi was still feeling sorry for himself after his run-in with the builder and felt even worse. He ended up confessing to Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) that it was his fault she drank a spiked drink at the recent party, which left her in the hospital.

This led to him being forced to explain himself to his father Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) who was furious at the mess his son is making of his life.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
