Customers of supermarket chain are being warned not to click on a social media post promising users a free £250 'voucher'. The fake posts have been spotted on the social media site and include a link to a dubious website; a spokesperson for the supermarket chain has confirmed no such voucher is being offered.
The messages appear to be posted by bots that target local community pages, including property and buying and selling pages.
An example of one of the posts read: 'ASDA £250 payment (sic) have started officially for free days...hhgtg'
The posts claim Asda is offering '£250 payments' with a link to a dubious site in the comments section.
Some posts also show an actual £250 voucher for the supermarket, which is a fake.
A spokesperson for Asda told : "It has been brought to our attention that there are a number of scam posts on social media advertising Asda vouchers.
"These un-associated posts have been reported to Facebook and we are working hard to have them removed.
"We encourage all customers to be careful before entering anything online that isn't connected to an official Asda account or an official Asda website."
reported that Facebook and Asda are not currently aware of who is behind the scam posts but a spokesperson for Meta, owner of Facebook said: "We don't want anyone to fall victim to fraud which is why our platforms have systems in place to help us detect and enforce against scams."
The Mail also reported that Tesco customers have been warned about a phishing email scam that uses the offer of a £500 gift card to lure shoppers in.
To apply for it, a link takes you to a malicious survey website, where the questions are designed to reveal your personal and financial information.
A warning from Tesco said: "Using fake emails to get hold of someone's personal details is called 'phishing'. You might receive an email that looks real, as though it's from Tesco, but it may ask you for personal information that we would never ask for.
"Remember, we'll never ask you for personal information in an email unless you've contacted us first and we're replying to you directly."
