A grandmother allegedly ran over and killed her five-year-old grandson while driving drunk to work at 7am. Kristen Anders, 55, was pulling out of her driveway when she is said to have struck her grandson, Carson Lawson, head-on in Sidell, Louisiana, as he waited for his school bus, killing him, police said.

Slidell Police investigators determined Anders was under the influence of alcohol and central nervous system depressants. She was arrested on the scene. Police Chief Daniel Seuzeneau called the incident "any parent's worst nightmare".

He added: "I just want everybody to understand that this is a very tragic situation for this family, because not only did they lose their precious five-year-old child, they're also having to deal with the fact that the grandmother is now under arrest for this incident.

"I was at the scene this morning, as well as several of our officers. This affects everyone. This hits home hard for all of us and all of the first responders who were at that scene."

Anders is said to have stopped immediately after realising what dreadful incident had happened outside her home, which is around 28 miles northeast of New Orleans, cops said.

Police previously said in a statement: "Shortly after 7:00am on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, officers responded to the 300 block of Spartan Loop regarding a vehicle that struck a young child in a driveway.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that the child was in the driveway of their home - preparing to leave for school - when he was struck by a family member's SUV, as it was leaving the driveway."

An autopsy is scheduled later this week for Carson, who turned 5 in June, the coroner's office said. An investigation is now underway.
