Labour MP under investigation over Israel-Palestine trip

A Labour MP is being investigated by Parliament's standards watchdog amid claims she was late to declare a trip to Israel and the Palestinian territories. Cat Eccles, who represents Stourbridge, undertook a trip sponsored by Labour Friends of Israel. It included flights, accommodation and meals, amounting to £2,600 in total.

Rules state MPs have to be "open and frank" when "declaring any relevant interest". And they must register interests within 28 days.

But while the trip was listed as happening between May 25-29, it wasn't registered until July 9.

A description of the trip includes meetings with diplomats, academics, politicians and activists.

A spokesperson for Ms Eccles told the Express and Star news outlet on Saturday that the deadline was missed because of an admin error.

They told the publication there was no attempt to cover up the trip.

Ms Eccles has been approached for comment.
