Gardeners can get rid of a common garden nuisance with one common household item. Moss can take over a garden, becoming an eyesore and making the patio slippery.
Mossis a small, flowerless plant that typically forms dense green clumps, often in damp or shady locations. It spreads relatively quickly, especially in the right conditions, through fragmentation or asexual reproduction from tiny pieces that form new plants.
Widespread coverage occurs because fragmented pieces can easily take hold, and a healthy moss patch can grow into a large mat or carpet. Normally, Brits remove it by scraping it away or applying a moss killer solution, but Good Grow has recommended a more natural solution: baking soda.

Baking soda has become a more common solution for removing purpose-made cleaning products from their homes. It is known for being cost-effective and having non-toxic properties, making it safe for use around pets and wildlife.
It is effective against moss because it alters the pH environment. Moss thrives in mildly acidic environments, with a pH between five and six.
But baking soda is a mild alkali, pulling up the pH level and creating an inhospitable environment for the moss. It is also a simple application and doesn't require any other tools, making it very easy for gardeners.
To make the solution, add two to three tablespoons of baking soda to 950ml of water. Stir the solution gently until the baking soda has fully dissolved.
Use a sprayer to apply the solution directly onto the mossy areas. Remember to apply it during a dry day to allow the baking soda to work effectively and avoid rinsing it away with rain.
Another method is to sprinkle baking soda liberally over the mossy areas. Let it sit for at least 24 hours. This allows it to dry out and kill the moss, which can then be scraped away with a stiff brush.
Choose a dry day for application to prevent the baking soda from washing away. Reapply on the following sunny days to reinforce the effect and ensure moss death and easy removal.
