Passengers heading to this summer will soon able to go to sleep in and wake up in thanks to this picturesque new night train. Named the Espresso Riviera, this train route is returning to the rails after a successful summer season last year, with a small route change.
The night train will link to Marseille, offering passengers a relaxed and scenic journey between Italy's capital and the French Riviera. It forms part of Italy's tourist train initiative, which sees a relaunched vintage fleet of trains offer passengers a chance to see some of the country's most picturesque spots. The will depart from Roma Termini station on Friday evening, arriving in Marseille on Saturday morning, with the reverse journey leaving on Saturday and arriving in Rome on Sunday morning.

Passengers can choose between a sleeping car with private compartments or a more affordable couchette. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are also available.
A daytime alternative from is also available, with private lounges and seats in first and second class to enjoy the view during daylight hours. The company say it is also planning a departure from Milan, which will run straight to Genoa and directly link northern Italy to France.
According to Luigi Cantamessa, CEO of FS Treni Turistici Italiani, the route aims to facilitate "not only holidaymakers departing from the capital, increasingly looking for a varied offer of service levels on board the train, but also tourist flows towards western Liguria, finally offering a service without changes from Genoa to Ventimiglia and France."
The includes several postcard-perfect coastal towns, including the glamorous towns of Sanremo on Italy's Ligurian coast, Monaco's Monte Carlo and Cannes. Unlike last year, when the route terminated in Nice, this year the route extends westward to Marseille.
After departing from Rome, the full route will stop at Genoa, Savona, Alassia, Imperia, Sanremo and Ventimiglia in Italy, as well as Menton, , Nice, Cannes, Saint-Raphaël-Valescure, Toulon and Marseille in France.
The service, operated by FS Treni Turistici, will run on weekends between July 4 and August 30, with .
