Samsung has unveiled its latest addition to the Galaxy smartphone series, the Galaxy S25 FE. The tech giant announced the new model on Thursday (September 4), describing it as the 'newest and most attainable addition to the Galaxy S25 lineup'.

The S25 FE is part of Samsung's budget-friendly 'Fan Edition' series, with a starting price of £649 from Samsung and Amazon. Despite its lower price tag, the phone boasts impressive features such as a 6.7" dynamic AMOLED 2X display, 12MP ultra-wide camera and 50MP wide camera, plus 256GB of storage, a powerful 4,900 mAh battery and an IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

The device also comes with a range of Galaxy AI functions like Generative Edit and Circle to Search, along with Google's AI-powered Gemini Live. All these features are house in an enhanced Armor Aluminum frame with a slim, lightweight design, available in four colours: Icyblue, Jetblack, Navy and White.

While the Galaxy S25 FE is £150 cheaper than the Galaxy S25, many Android fans opt for contract deals like Sky Mobile's £23 launch deal. This includes £368 worth of freebies, with customers able to claim a free Galaxy Watch7 worth £239 and receive a pair of free Galaxy Buds3 FE worth £129 with the phone.

The package comes with a 100MB data allowance, but Sky offers additional data plans including 3GB for £6 or 50GB for £12. It's important to note that Sky's £23 deal is based on a 36-month contract, but customers can switch to a new phone after 24 months at no extra cost, reports the Mirror.

Meanwhile, Currys-backed retailer Mobiles.co.uk is offering the handset on iD Mobile's £26.99 unlimited data plan, though this does not include free earbuds. Announcing the new model, Jay Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Office, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, said: "Galaxy S25 FE plays an important role as a gateway into the broader Galaxy AI ecosystem, making these experiences more attainable for a wider range of users.

"With expanded personalised AI experiences and AI-powered photography and editing tools, Galaxy S25 FE empowers more people to bring greater convenience and creativity into their everyday lives."

The timing of the release may be viewed by some as an effort to upstage Apple as it arrives just days before the anticipated iPhone 17 launch, which is expected to be revealed on September 9. Prior to this, Apple's newest model - the iPhone 16e - has been falling in price at retailers including Amazon and Sky Mobile, with costs now starting at £544 or £18 per month.

However, for those who favour Android, Tech Editor Dave Snelling tested the Galaxy S25 FE himself, saying: "The new S25 FE is another decent device from Samsung. It feels super premium in the hand and has a pixel-packed 6.7-inch display.

"There are all the AI smarts found on the standard S25, including full Google Gemini access, plus other features such as fast charging and a toughened design. No, it doesn't get the impressive Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, the cameras can't match the Ultra and there are less colour choices but if those things don't worry you then the FE is one to watch out for.

"The only issues from my short time with this phone could be that it only comes in one large screen size, and it is still pretty expensive. Samsung has got some promotional offers, but I can't help thinking a £599 price tag would seem more appealing."
