Police struggle to find witnesses and gather evidence in gang war killing

Send Push

Nagpur: City police investigating the murder of Avinash Bhusari—an alleged fallout of the ongoing Hiranwar-Sheikhu gang rivalry—are facing major hurdles in gathering evidence, information, or even witness statements. According to sources, witnesses are unwilling to come forward due to fear.

Sources stated that protecting the witnesses or shielding them from being threatened to turn hostile during the trial is another major challenge for police

Investigation teams from Ambazari police station and the crime branch are struggling to extract any leads about the prime suspects still at large, including Bunty Hiranwar, Shakti Yadav, his brother Shibu Yadav, and others. Despite extensive efforts, the gang's relatives and acquaintances in Kachipura and Chamadiya localities remain silent, refusing to share information that might assist the probe.

Adding to the difficulties, the Hiranwar gang has reportedly gone completely off the digital grid, avoiding using mobile phones or electronic communication. The cyber cell suspects the accused may be using borrowed phones from strangers to communicate, which has made tracking their movements exceptionally difficult. Based on limited clues, multiple teams of city police are attempting to trace the gang's whereabouts.

Senior police officials revealed that while Bhusari's family and friends held a candlelight march to condemn the killing and demand justice, none were willing to provide official statements or testify. "The family even met chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, but it's unclear how many will come forward if required to testify. Even eyewitnesses are reluctant to speak up," said a senior police officer.

Sources further indicated that several private businesses and establishments are refusing to share CCTV footage with the police, fearing they may be drawn into the case as witnesses.
