Mark DeRosa, known for his somewhat sharp and consummate understanding of the game, declared his five favourite Major League Baseball clubs for the year 2025 on a segment of MLB Central. The Major League analyst for the MLB Network and former Blue Jays infielder chose franchises that he feels are exercising themselves to the fullest as the regular season rolls on.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers To begin with DeRosa's list, the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team that sets the standard for excellence at all levels, is then going to be compared with the legendary Yankees of 1998 in terms of how complete and well-rounded, and even dominating this squad is. Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman head the lineup, and Tyler Glasnow and Bobby Miller combine to make quite a rotation.
With that in mind, these star players seem to be hitting their stride. Be it by the power of hitting or lights-out work in the bullpen, they have it all accounted for, making them the most complete team in baseball right now.
2. New York Mets Second on this list is the outcome of a terrific resurgence: The Mets rebuilt their roster through the offseason and made a huge push for further pitching depth. From a shaky position, the New Yorkers have climbed up the ranks. Francisco Lindor is the offensive frontrunner now, while Edwin Díaz has found his path back to sealing up games with authority again. The chemistry and consistency of the roster are large parts of the reason DeRosa sees them as a team that poses a threat to the league.
3. San Diego Padres The San Diego Padres continue to astonish, thus earning the third spot on DeRosa's list. After last season, which featured both peaks and valleys, they have tightened both offence and pitching. Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove are pitched with experience and composure. Their depth is also coming from a bullpen and volatile base-running, making them even tougher.
4. New York Yankees The Yankees claim fourth place despite injuries at the beginning because of the stardom and depth of their rosters. Aaron Judge is heating up, and surprisingly steady has been the pitching staff. Young players have stepped up to contribute in some of the biggest moments, and DeRosa has been impressed with their ability to grind out wins. Once more, their AL East dominance is in full swing again.
5. Chicago Cubs Finally, rounding out DeRosa's top five are the Chicago Cubs, a team quickly shedding the rebuilding moniker. With Seiya Suzuki, Dansby Swanson, and Cody Bellinger providing strong early offence, combined with steady pitching numbers and just a general feel of playing energised, DeRosa cites their aggressiveness and clubhouse culture as reasons for their success at this point in the season.
